In collating the chief events in the history of operation at Vísir’s four processing plants, (as detailed on this website) we gather how similar peoples priorities were in the first half of the last century. The fishing grounds, our chief asset and treasure, were opening and Icelanders were rising from poverty to prosperity.
The pioneers of this age used every opportunity and worked relentlessly to haul in the catch. Each in their own locale, men competed towards the same goal. From 1942 to 1947, the Dýrafjörður Cooperative purchased the local freezer plant. In 1945 it was decided to build a freezing plant in Húsavík and that same year Búlandstindur was established in Djúpivogur. Construction of a freezer plant was also initiated. That year Palli in Sævík, called Bói, was thirteen years of age and had already begun his fishing career.

We have successfully led the way within our field, with a clear agenda and a strong vision for the future. In order to succeed, the work environment must be stable and good employees are, as always, the most significant factor within the operation.
It is therefore our pleasure to celebrate this anniversary together. Let us prove that we are more than a company with a rich past but equally the brightest future.
