In the current economical situation, where people are losing their savings and jobs, it is only natural that all employees are worried. Old values have been restored and newer values have disappeared. Human resources have never been more valuable and job security is valued most of all. We should keep this in mind when we battle through this current crisis.
Vísir has had the great fortune in the last decades to have a fantastic staff. Fluctuations in fishing quotas and market conditions have often caused our company great difficulty but our employees have always shown understanding when we have had to change our operations. As a result, we are now well prepared to deal with the conditions we are facing.
The main threat facing the fishing industry today is the uncertainty whether the banks will be able to continue providing their services, and whether markets remain unchanged or not. These factors are beyond our control and we have no other option than continuing to produce high quality food products that generate the currency that will get us through this, as so often before.
It is quite clear that the government’s main task is to enable the export industries to continue working. We are thus at the forefront of restoring the country after these traumatic events. We have all the resources necessary to meet these expectations and we look forward to taking on the challenge. Our words and actions should also support those politicians that are working hard to get us through these troubled times.
We know that many are suffering after recent events. We must show each other kindness and consideration and stand together through this turmoil. Our children and grandchildren will thank us for that.
On behalf of Vísir’s owners and management
