Split fish

The processing plant in Grindavík specialises in the production of split fish, which is also produced in Djúpivogur.The raw material is entirely long-line caught cod, which places the product in the highest quality category.The largest markets for this fish are Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. The product name SPIG was derived from the country initials. When it comes to packing, the split fish is graded into three quality classifications: SPIG I, II and III. Size grading makes use of a conventional classification: 4000 g and over, 2700-4000 g, 1700-2700 g, 1200-1700 g, 800-1200 g, 500-800 g and, finally, 400-500 g. Most of the fish is packed into 25-kg packages.

Fillets

Fillets are produced in Djúpivogur and Thingeyri. As with split fish, all raw materials are long-line caught. Fillets go to the same markets as split fish, that is, Italy, Portugal, Greece and Spain. Fillets are packed according to three quality classifications: A, B and C.The size grading is as follows: 1400 g and upwards, 100-1400 g, 700-1000 g, 400-700 g, 200-400 g and 100-200 g.Most fillets are packed into 25 kg packages.
