The processing plant in Grindavík specialises in the production of split fish, which is also produced in Djúpivogur.The raw material is entirely long-line caught cod, which places the product in the highest quality category.The largest markets for this fish are Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. The product name SPIG was derived from the country initials. When it comes to packing, the split fish is graded into three quality classifications: SPIG I, II and III. Size grading makes use of a conventional classification: 4000 g and over, 2700-4000 g, 1700-2700 g, 1200-1700 g, 800-1200 g, 500-800 g and, finally, 400-500 g. Most of the fish is packed into 25-kg packages.
